Benefits of Organic Farming
What is Organic farming?
Organic farming system is not new to India and is being followed from ancient times.
Organic farming is a method of farming system which primarily aims at cultivating the land and raising crops in away that keep the soil alive and in good health.
It is possible by the use of organic wastes (crops, animal and farm waste, aquatic waste) and other biological material along with beneficial microorganisms (biofertilizers).
These materials of biological origin release nutrients to crops for increased yields in an eco-friendly, pollution free environment.
Basically, there are five basic components of organic farming:
- Organic manures (plant residues)
- Crop rotation
- organic Manures (farm yard manure, Compost, vermi-compost)
Biofertilizers (microbial inoculants) are in a way one of the components of integral plant nutrient system (IPNS).
Benefits of Organic Farming:
- Helps in maintaining environment health by reducing the level of pollution.
- Reduces human and animal hazards by reducing the level of residue in the product.
- Increase the agricultural products and make it sustainable.
- Ensures the optimum utilization of natural resources for short term benefit and helps in conserving them for future generation.

- It has also been demonstrated that plant products from organic farming are substantially better in quality like bigger in size, look, flavor, and aroma.
- Animal products are better in quality when animals are fed with feed and fodder produced organically.
- The underground water of the area where such farming system is in practice has been found to be free of toxic chemicals.
- Environment of that particular area is very fresh and pure.
